Bistro caretaker fined RM2,800 for operating business illegally

SIBU, July 5: A caretaker of a bistro has been fined RM2,800 in default four months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court today for operating a business illegally.

The accused, Boniface Usop, 37, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 5(1) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000.

The section provides for a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or a jail term not exceeding five years or both if convicted.


According to the charge sheet, at about 9.20pm on May 20 this year, a CID team went to a bistro at Jalan Tong Sang for an inspection.

While inside the premises, the accused had failed to show proof of the premises’ valid business registration and a valid entertainment license with the Sibu Municipal Council. — DayakDaily
