BioVerde Technologies appoints Hazwan Razak as CEO to drive biodiversity commercialisation

KUCHING, Aug 21: BioVerde Technologies Sdn Bhd (BVT), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Sarawak Biodiversity Council (SBC) has appointed Hazwan bin Razak as its Chief Executive Officer effective on Aug 1, 2025.

Hazwan previously served as General Manager of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), where he was recognised for advancing startup ecosystems and innovation-led initiatives.

“Sarawak is entering a new phase in realising the potential of its biodiversity.

“BioVerde Technologies will not just commercialise research–we will create industries, empower indigenous communities, and champion sustainability as a competitive advantage for Sarawak on the global stage,” Hazwan added in a statement today.

Chairman of SBC Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, welcomed the appointment, stressing Hazwan’s role in connecting scientific innovation with commercial opportunities.

“Hazwan’s vision and leadership will be key in delivering both economic and social impact,” Abdullah said.

Established on Feb 12, 2025, BVT was created to accelerate the commercialisation of innovations from the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre.

Its mandate is to transform scientific discoveries and SBC’s Natural Product Library into high-value products, services, and investment opportunities aligned with Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

BVT’s initial portfolio includes flagship indigenous botanical-based personal care brands such as LitSara®, AdenoSara®, and NatureSara®.

Beyond product development, the company will also lead the creation and management of the upcoming Sarawak Bioindustrial Park, envisioned as a catalyst for biodiversity-based industries and regional growth.
