KUCHING, June 25: World leaders need to hold a summit to discuss inflation issues, urges Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.
As inflation is now a global issue following the Covid-19 outbreak, he said all countries must gather immediately to address the matter in question.
”Many things that have happened in recent times have affected the lives of the people. The consumer price index (CPI) in the first five months of the year rose by 2.4 per cent, and the inflation rate in May increased by 2.8 per cent from a year ago.
“We can see on social media that people are complaining about the rising cost of living. The burden of spending is increasing, which is putting pressure on them,” he said in a statement.
Tiong, who is also Dudong assemblyman, expressed his worries about the consequences should the numbers continue to rise without control.
Meanwhile, he called on food-producing countries to cooperate and hold relevant meetings to address soaring raw material prices, logistics costs and supply chain disruptions.
“In these difficult times, all nations of the world must put aside differences, strengthen unity and work together to look after the welfare of the people around the world,” he said. — DayakDaily
