KUCHING, April 14: Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing is urging the Ministry of Finance to reconsider establishing an Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Bintulu, a project that was canceled by the then Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

He said the National Registration Department (JPN) Bintulu branch must also be upgraded in the interests of the people, especially regarding recent issues on applications for children’s chipped identity card, MyKid.

“I understand that JPN Bintulu branch cannot accept applications to obtain MyKid due to system and software problems that have not been updated.

“Instead, the applicants are asked to apply for the first time at JPN Kuching, JPN UTC Kuching, JPN UTC Sibu and JPN UTC Miri. This is something that shouldn’t happen because it makes it difficult for people,” he said in a statement today.

Viewing this service shortcoming as unacceptable, Tiong urged JPN Bintulu branch director to address and resolve the issue immediately while Tiong himself would bring the matter to the attention of the Home Minister Dato Sri Hamzah Zainudin.

Meanwhile, Tiong also highlighted the issue where JPN has run out of stock for MyKid cards for over a year, and the system software for processing MyKid has yet to be upgraded according to current needs.

“I sincerely hope this problem can be resolved as soon as possible for the benefit of the people.

“At this time many parents are facing difficulties in obtaining MyKid for their newborn children. They instead had to use their child’s birth certificate for important related matters,” he added. — Dayakdaily
