KUCHING, July 21: After 60 years of independence, Sarawak has grown into a peaceful and fertile land on the back of generations of development and growth, says Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.
Tiong, who is Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture and Bintulu MP, said Sarawak is a colourful home to a multitude of people and full of vitality where the people live in unity buoyed by rapid progress and enjoy a harmonious heritage.
“Our unity signifies the Hornbill Spirit. This 60-year timeline of Sarawak is a song and symbol of our many achievements over the years,” he said in a statement today.
The Dudong assemblyman pointed out that Sarawak also must break barriers to innovative thinking and continue to launch various strategic development initiatives with foresight.
He also said that to forge on with this trend and spur the economic momentum with an enterprising spirit, the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government led by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg recognises this heavy responsibility and commitment to uplifting the people’s well-being.
“To ensure that Sarawak stays abreast of current world developments and leads the field in developing excellence, the GPS government continues to adopt unprecedented forward-looking initiatives this year to build a sustainable economic foundation, including passing the Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2022 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting last year to give the state greater control over our airspace, storing and retention of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses and reduce carbon emissions overall.
“Meanwhile, the Forests (Amendment) Bill 2022 was unanimously passed to implement sustainable and responsible forest management and maintain the richness of our tropical rainforests, promote eco-tourism in Sarawak, and improve our advantages as an investment destination,” he added.
He pointed out that during his most recent visit, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s shout of “Segulai-Sejalai” rang loud and inspiring, reflecting Sarawak’s importance in the federation.
Therefore, he appeals to all Sarawakians to work together and forge the ‘Segulai-Sejalai’ spirit of unity and maintain the multi-cultural fabric of harmonious co-existence among various ethnic groups.
“This way, we contribute to making Sarawak and even the whole of Malaysia a more beautiful place to live.
“As I hold Sarawak dear in my heart, I wholeheartedly wish my fellow Sarawakians a most Happy Sarawak Day this year,” he said. — DayakDaily
