BINTULU, May 13: The Bintulu Marathon 2025, set to take place on Aug 3, promises participants a unique and unforgettable experience as the race route this year will cross the iconic 7km-long Jepak Bridge, a new highlight of this edition.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Datu Muhamad Yakup Kari said the event, now in its third year, is expecting 7,000 participants, including international runners — with 5,000 already registered so far.
“This marathon is more than just a sporting event. It is a platform to showcase Bintulu’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and warm, welcoming community to the world,” he said during a press conference held at Wisma Bintulu today.
Carrying the theme “Blaze Through Borneo’s Heartland,” the event features four main race categories: Full Marathon (42KM), Half Marathon (21KM), Competitive 10KM, and a 6KM Family Fun Run.
Winners in the Open Full Marathon category will compete for cash prizes of up to RM7,000, with entries open across several divisions: Open, Veteran, National, and Sarawak.
This year’s route has been carefully designed to offer runners a scenic and memorable journey, with the highlight being the run across the Jepak Bridge, along with a coastal stretch showcasing Bintulu’s landmarks.
The event also embraces eco-friendly initiatives and will feature an upgraded race village complete with local food stalls, cultural performances, sponsor booths, and uniquely designed medals and race shirts reflecting local identity.
Organised by BDA in collaboration with Binda Recreational Sports Club and strategically partnered with Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB), the marathon is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.
