KUCHING, July 27: A housewife from Bintulu is RM183,000 poorer after falling for an online part-time job scam.
Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata in a statement today said the 40-year-old victim, was added to a WhatsApp group by an unknown individual who identified herself as ‘Sarah’ on July 18.
According to Mancha, the suspect then offered the victim a part-time job by doing tasks online, such as liking and following a TikTok account as instructed including providing a screenshot to be sent to the suspect.
The victim was later contacted by the suspect personally through the Telegram app and was given a link to purchase an online package.
“Around July, the victim then made payment in 16 transactions to five different bank accounts with a total amount of RM183,000, and only received RM300 in return.
“The victim only realised she was scammed after not receiving anymore commission as promised by the suspect,” he added. — DayakDaily
