BINTULU, Dec 14: The expansion of Bintulu Hospital has been approved under the First Rolling Plan (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), says Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.
The project will see the addition of a new wing with 500 additional beds, bringing the total capacity to 839 beds, to meet the critical healthcare needs of the people.
Tiong also said he raised the importance of adequate public facilities in the expansion, which includes the inclusion of at least 3,000 parking lots, to cater to the growing population.
“I urge all relevant parties to expedite this project. Engagement with all stakeholders, especially healthcare users, must be prioritised to ensure its success,” he said during a gala night in honour of medical professionals recently.
Tiong, who is also the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, said Bintulu has witnessed remarkable transformations in healthcare, from preventive health initiatives to specialised treatments, which have significantly improved healthcare services and empowered the community to lead healthier lives.
“Delays are not an option, as they directly impact the well-being of our community. I am confident that with collective effort and determination, this project will be completed swiftly.
“I urge all healthcare providers to embrace continuous learning to enhance skills and knowledge. Closing gaps in access, affordability, and quality of care, especially in rural areas, remains a priority. Open communication is vital—healthcare staff must feel free to voice concerns and work collaboratively to overcome challenges.
“Let us continue fostering innovation and building a healthcare system that meets the needs of all Sarawakians. Together, we can overcome challenges, improve access, and ensure no one is left behind,” he said. — DayakDaily
