KUCHING, Oct 4: The Bintawa Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) together with Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) launched a community WhatsApp group named ‘Bintawa Community Security Guard’ today.

SCPA secretary David Hii in a press statement revealed the purpose of the group is for Bintawa residents to share information and alert each other of potentially suspicious people or activities around the neighborhood.

“The information in the group will be forwarded to the police for further action and this is important as such information or awareness may prevent a crime from actually occurring,” Hii pointed out.

David also said that a strong community bond may also deter would-be future offenders from attempting criminal activities in the neighborhood.

Meanwhile, crime prevention leaflets are also being distributed in Bintawa to promote crime awareness within the community. Bintawa JKKK chairwoman Kapitan Tay Kim Geok expressed her support and encouraged more residents of the area to participate in patrol activities. — DayakDaily
