KUCHING, Oct 10: More than two billion viewers across the Asia Pacific will get to view Sarawak live on their television sets when the state hosts the 23rd Asian Television Awards 2019.

This prestigious spectacle is scheduled to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching from Jan 11-12, and it would be broadcast live to 22 countries.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told a press conference that this would be the first time Sarawak played host, and it would definitely be good for the state’s tourism industry.

“It will promote the Land of the Hornbills as a hotspot destination for the industry and potentially boost tourist arrivals in the state significantly, in line with the Visit Sarawak Year 2019 campaign,” he said.

More than 500 international delegates in the film and entertainment industry, including the creme de la creme of film producers, directors, performers, host talents, judges, nominees and celebrities from participating countries from all over Asia, are expected to attend.

Asia TV Awards Sdn Bhd has licensed this event to continue the legacy of the yearly appreciation awards.

The event will showcase numerous awards in 43 categories and recognise the best performances, programming and production excellence of the Asian television industry.

This will be followed by a public concert on Jan 13 at the ‘Panggung Udara’ Amphitheater. — DayakDaily
