KUCHING, Sept 6: Muslim communities from Sarawak’s indigenous Bidayuh and Melanau groups took part in this year’s Sarawak-level Maulidur Rasul Parade held at Padang Merdeka here, combining cultural pride with religious devotion.
The Bidayuh contingent from Kampung Darul Islam, Belimbing, Padawan, led by 58-year-old village chief (KK) Jurani Baharom, fielded 45 participants this year. Each member donned traditional Bidayuh attire designed to align with Islamic principles of modesty.

“We join the parade every year, at both Serian and State levels. Participating in Maulidur Rasul strengthens our commitment to our faith, while also allowing us to proudly display our Bidayuh heritage.
“Differences in religion among our community members do not stop us from embracing our roots. We also express our love for the Prophet by reciting selawat throughout the parade,” he said when met at the venue today.
Meanwhile, the Melanau Muslim contingent from Kuching, led by Osman Abdullah, 66, brought 30 participants from across the region, including Mukah, Daro, Dalat and Matu.
Members wore traditional Melanau clothing, following Shariah guidelines, and displayed the terendak (traditional headgear), a symbol of their identity.

“Although Melanau people practice various religions, we remain united.
“We are proud to participate as Muslims, showing our love for Prophet Muhammad while strengthening bonds with fellow believers,” he said.

He also said the parade serves as an important platform to strengthen bonds among fellow believers, citing Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 10, which reminds the Muslim that all who have faith are brothers. – DayakDaily
