KUCHING, Jan 4: The Bukit Bintang Star-Lit Street Festival, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), demonstrates that the campaign is not confined to conventional tourism products but is instead driven through community engagement, culture, and creativity in key tourist areas.
In a Facebook post, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing stated that it also demonstrates how tourism is experienced in shared spaces, beyond formal venues, and among the people.
“Driven by local talent, creative communities, and strong private-sector support, this festival reflects the true spirit of VM2026. It highlights how culture, inclusivity, and urban energy come together to create meaningful and sustainable tourism experiences,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a TVS report, he was quoted as saying that festivals of this nature also contribute to the growth of the economy, while providing opportunities for local talents and young people to showcase their creativity.
“Tourism today is experience-based. Programmes like this bring together local musicians, cultural practitioners, creative communities and visitors within a vibrant ecosystem,” he said when officiating the festival on Saturday (Jan 3).
Tiong, who is also the MP for Bintulu and assemblyman for Dudong, noted that the festival is driven entirely by the private sector, reflecting a collaborative approach between the government, the private sector, and the community in making the VM2026 campaign a success. — DayakDaily
