Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Bintulu, Limbang issued thunderstorm warnings, valid until 6pm (June 22)

KUCHING, June 22: Thunderstorm warnings were issued for several districts in Sarawak until 6pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in an advisory notice issued at 2pm today, said the affected districts are Betong (Saratok), Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu, Kapit (Song), Bintulu, and Limbang (Lawas).

According to the department, anticipated weather conditions include heavy rainfall and strong winds.

“A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with rain intensity greater than 20mm/hour that is approaching or expected to last for more than an hour. A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a maximum of sin hours per release,” it added. — DayakDaily
