KUCHING, Aug 14: Three Bersatu MPs from Borneo have challenged the Pakatan Harapan (PH) to publicly declare to the people that they are not planning to seize power or form the government with the support of kleptocrats.
The call was made by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Members of Parliament (MPs) Datuk Ali Biju (Saratok), Willie Mongie (Puncak Borneo) and Jonathan Yasin (Ranau) in a joint statement issued today in reference to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s pledge to not allow kleptocrats to hold a position in government.
“Why is PH still refusing to make the same promise?
“Today, DAP (Democratic Action Party) has indicated their prime minister candidate will be Datuk Seri Anwar ibrahim. Despite conceding the fact that Anwar doesn’t have the numbers and will certainly depend on the support of the kleptocrats and court clusters, they continue to express their support for his candidacy.”
In this matter, the trio pointed out that the silence of DAP and PH at this point was “deafening”.
“After making opposition to kleptocrats their rallying cry in GE14 (14th General Election), is this what DAP, PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat), Amanah (Parti Amanah Negara) have come to? Take power at all costs, with whichever unsavoury political bedfellow available?”
If PH failed to declare their position in the next 24 hours, the three emphasised that “all the principles and reforms they like to talk about were just a charade and political fodder for their ambitions”.
The Bersatu MPs added that whatever happens now, Muhyiddin can hold his head high as even though his political career was on the line, he refused to give in to kleptocrats, refused to interfere in court cases and refused to sell the nation’s future to the highest bidder.
Meanwhile, in Muhyiddin’s special televised address yesterday, he has expressed willingness to work with parties outside of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition following a scheduled vote of confidence in Parliament on Sept 7.
The Prime Minister has proposed a seven-point cross-party framework for bipartisan cooperation to be implemented by the government in the event the vote of confidence is passed.
Among others, he offered ministerial perks to be accorded to the Opposition leader and the guarantee to table bills to set a two-term limit for the prime minister’s post as well anti-party hopping laws, in exchange for the opposition’s support to ensure his continuity as the country’s top executive.
The Pagoh MP also said that not a single MP can prove they had the majority backing of Dewan Rakyat members to present themselves to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to appoint them as the new prime minister.— DayakDaily
