KUCHING, Sept 2: Beijing BECA Sci-Tech Co Ltd will proceed with the proposed construction of the US$5.2 billion petrochemical and refinery integrated project in Sarawak.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan disclosed that the project is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2024.
“While the Covid-19 pandemic slowed the progress of the proposed project, the company has been actively engaging with the Sarawak government so that their proposal could be materialised,” he said.
The matter was discussed during his meeting with the chairman of Beijing BECA Sci-Tech Co Ltd, Dong Chao, in Beijing on August 31.
Awang Tengah also conveyed his gratitude to BECA for its commitment to the project.
He assured the company that the Sarawak government will do its utmost best to facilitate \the successful implementation of the project in the State. — DayakDaily
