BETONG, Sept 18: The new Bebuling Airport has reached a significant milestone with the first aircraft landing at the facility, marking a major step forward in the development of air transport infrastructure in the Betong area.
In a post shared on its social media today, the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak said the landing represented another step towards strengthening air connectivity and improving accessibility to Betong and surrounding areas.
Developed as a Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) airport, the facility is intended to enhance connectivity particularly for Betong, Spaoh and Bukit Sadok, while supporting the development of the agropolitan area.
It will also provide an alternative transportation option for agricultural produce from the Bukit Sadok area.
According to JKR Sarawak, the project includes a 1,190-metre-long and 23-metre-wide Code 2B runway, a 185-metre taxiway, aircraft parking apron, helipad, terminal building and control tower.
The airport is also equipped with Aircraft Fire and Rescue Services (AFRS) facilities, an approximately 645-metre-long main access road and other supporting infrastructure.
The STOLport is designed to accommodate several types of aircraft suitable for short take-off and landing operations, including the DHC-6 Twin Otter, Cessna 208 Caravan, Cessna 408 SkyCourier and Beechcraft King Air 350i.
JKR Sarawak said the first aircraft landing marked further progress in efforts to strengthen the transport network and improve access to Betong and its surrounding areas. — DayakDaily
