Beaten to death over stolen mobile phone

MIRI, Feb 2: Police arrested eight people including an Indonesian woman yesterday for allegedly assaulting a man that led to his death.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, who confirmed the arrest, said the assault is believed to be caused by a stolen mobile phone.


“The victim was caught by the suspects earlier that day and was believed to have been assaulted.

“After the alleged assault, they sent the victim to Miri Central police station using a four-wheel drive. Unfortunately, upon their arrival at the police station at around 9.35pm, the man was already dead from the injuries he sustained,” he continued.

The body being transferred to Miri Hospital.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel were immediately rushed to the scene to inspect the injured victim.

Lim said the victim was already dead upon his arrival at the police station and has yet to be identified. The body has been taken to Miri Hospital for a post mortem.

All the suspects, aged between 20 and 40, have been placed under police custody to assist with investigations, including the person who lodged a police report over the stolen mobile phone.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. — DayakDaily
