SERIAN, Jan 29: Locals need to adopt the mindset of being nature’s caretakers as this will also help push the the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) towards success.

Tarat is one of the nine State constituencies under the said agency.

Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn pointed out that foreign tourists would love to see big trees and nature, and this can generate income for the locals.

The Tarat assemblyman who is also the GKCDA chairman said this last night at the River Cleanliness and Landscape competition prizegiving ceremony at Kampung Pesang in Padawan, here.

He expressed his hope that all 67 villages in Tarat constituency will participate in the competition in the future.
to instill a sense of shared responsibility over the beautification and cleanliness of the environment.

Sagah stressed that efforts emphasising on the cleanliness of rivers have been successful with several villages in the constituency generating income through the ‘tagang’ system of rearing fish.

“Rivers like mountains, caves, thick forests and Rafflesia flowers that we have, are our very important assets and resources to generate income, so it is crucial for us to properly look after them,” he said.
