KUCHING, Oct 24: The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching 2 (BCCK 2) project is ahead of schedule by 1.43 per cent and is expected to be completed by December 2027, says Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah, who is also the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, said the project has reached 3.27 per cent completion as of Oct 18, about two weeks ahead of schedule. The original target completion date was March 31, 2028.
He said the early completion is important as BCCK 2 will host major international events, including the International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress and Exhibition (WWCE) in late 2028, which is expected to draw about 10,000 visitors worldwide.
“They’ve (the contractors) been working here for about six months and we are impressed by their progress,” said Uggah during a visit to the BCCK 2 construction site today.
He added that earlier piling issues have been resolved, with 98 per cent of piling works now completed.

The RM550 million BCCK 2 project marks a major step forward for Sarawak’s infrastructure and its capacity to host world-class events.
The new centre will feature a main hall for 9,500 people—almost double the capacity of the current BCCK. It will also include a multi-storey car park with over 1,000 spaces, 20 small conference rooms, and riverside facilities. A covered pedestrian bridge will link it to the existing BCCK, creating a fully integrated convention complex.
The visit also highlighted the use of modern construction technology in the project. In line with the Sarawak’s digitalisation agenda, BCCK 2 adopts Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology.
The project was awarded to Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (Cahya Mata) and began construction on April 30 this year. Cahya Mata, through its subsidiary PPES Works (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, also built the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Bridge, formerly known as the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge. –DayakDaily
