BCCK 2: Construction to begin Apr 30, expected to complete by March 2028

KUCHING, April 13: Construction work on Borneo Convention Centre Kuching II (BCCK 2) is scheduled to begin on April 30 with a targeted completion date by March 31, 2028.

In a statement, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) said this followed a visit by its director, Dr Cassidy Morris, to the project site on April 12.

“BCCK 2 is a strategic initiative by the Sarawak government to strengthen Kuching’s role as the main hub for conventions and international events within the region.

“Being able to accommodate 9,500 people, it will greatly impact the local tourism and economic sectors,” said the press release.

It added that this project reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure that is sustainable and competitive, in line with Sarawak’s post-2030 development direction.

Meanwhile, in another statement, Cassidy said the department was honoured to be given the trust as the implementing agency for the project.

“As the Sarawak government’s main technical agency, the department will ensure every phase of this project will be implemented professionally with integrity in accordance with the highest engineering standards.

“This visit also provided us with the opportunity to inspect the site’s readiness and coordinate technical aspects with the contractor and implementation team,” he said.

He added that in line with the slogan ‘We build for you’, Sarawak JKR is committed to the continued contribution to the State’s development through big-scale projects and can benefit the people. — DayaDaily
