Bau man nabbed for allegedly running illegal lottery operation

KUCHING, April 3: A 64-year-old man from Bau was arrested by the police for allegedly running an illegal lottery operation today.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the suspect was arrested at 10.45pm by the Bau district police headquarters (IPD Bau) Crimes Investigation Department personnel during “Ops Dadu”, behind a coffee shop in Jalan Temenggung Salau in Bau.

“After surveying the premises for 20 minutes, one of the police personnel introduces himself as a senior police officer from IPD Bau to the suspect in order to make an inspection on the premises to check for any gambling activities.

“Upon inspection, police found that the premises is running a public lottery operation without a license. Police also found a lottery selling application after further inspection on the suspect’s mobile phone, including a piece of paper with numbers written on it believed to be lottery numbers,” he said in a press statement today.

Poge noted, the suspect mobile phone were seized by the police, together with an undisclosed number of cash, as well as a piece of paper with numbers written on it

“The suspect was arrested under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953,” he added. — DayakDaily
