Some also informed that the problem has caused the road to be slippery.

Due to this, a sea of cars were seen moving slowly along the whole stretch of Jalan Batu Kawah up to 3rd Mile, causing a major traffic jam.

It was also believed that similar traffic jams occurred in Matang including Emart Matang Roundabout, Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang, Jalan Stephen Yong and Jalan Sungai Maong due to road users seeking alternative routes to avoid the burst pipe’s location.

As of press time, the traffic jams are still ongoing since 5pm.

According to a notice by Kuching Water Board (KWB), the major pipe burst of 1400mm MSCL was caused by a third party and has led to a water supply disruption to several areas.

“Consumers along Jalan Matang from Kubah Ria to Batu 9 Jalan Matang, Jalan Sultan Tengah to Jalan Bako, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhamad Salahudin, Jalan Demak and surrounding areas including Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) areas of jurisdiction will experience low water pressure or no water supply.

“KWB is doing our best to restore supply within the shortest possible time,” it said. — DayakDaily
