KUCHING, July 2: The renovation works at Batu Kawa Maternal and Child Health Clinic, now only at 38.9 per cent completion, may not meet the scheduled deadline on July 15 due to the complexities of renovating on operational clinic.
Batu Kawah assemblyman Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the clinic had suffered from years of neglect, resulting in inadequate facilities.
Following his request to the Malaysia Ministry of Health, funds were allocated for the clinic’s repair and upgrade.
“The former Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa kept her promise by allocating RM300,000 for the clinic’s renovation and upgrade after inspecting the clinic to gain firsthand insight into its condition with me on Sept 16 last year.
“During Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Sarawak in March, the Sarawak government highlighted its need for RM17 billion to repair and upgrade hospitals and clinics throughout Sarawak.
“He also agreed that the Sarawak government would initially fund the repair of dilapidated clinics, with the federal government reimbursing the costs later,” said Dr Sim in a statement today.
Stressing the need to establish more clinics to meet the demands of Sarawak’s rapid development and growing population, the Sarawak Deputy Premier urged the federal government to actively fulfill its responsibilities and obligations by providing better healthcare infrastructure and services in the State. — DayakDaily
