KUCHING, July 7: The proposed 5.664km U3-standard dual carriageway linking the Batu Kawa–Matang (Sungai Moyan) and Stephen Yong junctions is progressing on schedule and remains on track for completion by early February 2029.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the RM207.88 million project has achieved 3.86 per cent physical progress, placing it 1.09 percentage points ahead of its scheduled progress of 2.77 per cent.
Aidel explained that this road project is a vital component of the Kuching inner ring road network, which comprises five infrastructure packages, and that it forms part of the Sarawak government’s urban road infrastructure development programme under the 13th Malaysia Plan.
“So far, the project is progressing well and is on schedule,” he told reporters after receiving a project briefing from the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak during a site visit today.
Aidel noted that the new dual carriageway will improve connectivity between the rapidly developing townships of Batu Kawa and Matang, facilitating smoother traffic flow and supporting future growth in western Kuching.
He added that once completed, the project will significantly ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time for motorists.
Also present during the visit were Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai, JKR Kuching Division superintendent officer and divisional engineer Wang Say Kang, and other senior officers from the ministry and JKR. — DayakDaily
