KUCHING, Oct 13: A new flight service connecting Miri with the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang will commence operations on Dec 1, 2026, providing more air travel options, particularly for those who frequently travel to and from the Klang Valley for work, business, education, healthcare, and family matters.
In a statement, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia Chiew Choon Man said this followed meetings with Batik Air representatives.
“Flights to Subang will certainly offer greater convenience, given its location closer to Kuala Lumpur city centre and surrounding areas for many passenger destinations.
“This will provide additional convenience for Miri residents, particularly in terms of accessibility and planning onward ground transportation upon arrival,” said the Miri MP.
Chiew said the addition of this route is not merely about having more flight options, but also about improving Miri’s connectivity with the country’s major economic centres.
He also believes better air transport connectivity is particularly important for a city like Miri, which has significant potential for further growth.
“I would like to express my appreciation to Batik Air and all parties involved in making this service a reality. I hope the new route will receive a positive response and can be sustained in the long term for the benefit of the people of Miri and tourists wishing to visit the city.
“I am confident that with flights commencing on December 1, 2026, the people of Miri will enjoy another option for more convenient and flexible travel. This is the kind of initiative we want to see—one that delivers direct benefits to the people and supports the development of our Miri,” he said. — DayakDaily
