KUCHING, March 19: The MyPSV programme in Sarawak, aimed at training 300 new bus drivers, has successfully qualified 211 candidates, with plans to place them in real employment opportunities through initiatives like BAS.MY Kuching, Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) says.
In a statement today following a meeting with the Sarawak Bus Transport Companies Association (SBTCA) and JPJ Sarawak, CVLB chairman Michael Kong said, “With the recent launch of BAS.MY Kuching, we are actively creating job placements that will allow these newly trained drivers to fully utilise their skills and contribute to Sarawak’s growing public transport network.
“This effort is part of our broader commitment to revitalising the public transport sector, making it a viable career path while improving transport accessibility for the people of Sarawak.
“As we continue rolling out initiatives like BAS.MY Kuching, we remain open to engagement with industry players and are committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for both transport operators and the commuting public.”
However, Kong acknowledged that there is a shortfall in reaching the target of qualifying 300 participants through the MyPSV programme.
“Despite the allocation for 300 participants, SBTCA has only managed to forward 211 qualified candidates who have all successfully completed the entire course and have since been granted their Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence.
“This shortfall highlights the need for more participation in the programme to ensure that we maximise the benefits of this government-funded initiative,” he said.
The MyPSV initiative is fully funded by the Ministry of Transport and aims to train 300 new bus drivers in Sarawak, equipping them with the necessary skills and certifications to excel in the industry. – DayakDaily
