KUCHING, Nov 24: Works Minister Baru Bian believed “some elements” are attempting to purposely disrupt the state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman’s appointment.
Asked by reporters to reveal the “elements”, Baru sidestepped the question.
“I think it is very clear that there have been some people trying to divert from what we have been doing. One, of course, is the appointment of the Sarawak chairman.
“I think there are some voices we hear that (the persons) depart from the provision of the constitution. That is very clear, you must be consistent with the law,” he told reporters after being given a big welcoming ceremony at the Kuching International Airport here today.
Recently, there have been talks among state PKR members that Baru might be replaced by Julau MP and Julau PKR division head Larry Sng.
Some party members claimed that the state party chairman would be appointed by the divisions as per the Kuching Declaration 2012 and 2014, and not the party president as in the case of states in the peninsula.
Anwar yesterday clarified that the appointment of the state chairman would be made as usual in accordance with the party constitution.
Meanwhile, Baru said all these years, since he became state party chairman in 2008, the state PKR had always been peaceful and harmonious
However, in recent months, there have been disruptive occurrences within the party, especially during the party elections, he claimed.
“Apparently, in the last few months, we can hear that kind of attempts to destabilise us, to disunite us. But I believe we are mature enough, the members and the leaders of Keadilan Sarawak are matured enough to make their choice.
“And I am very confident of that,” said Baru. — DayakDaily
