KUCHING, Sept 27: The scrapping of Project Delivery Partner (PDP) only affects Lebuhraya Borneo Utara (LBU) while contractors undertaking the Pan Borneo Highway packages will continue as usual.
Works Minister Baru Bian has clarified today that news on contractors of Pan Borneo Highway being terminated was not accurate.
The different packages of Pan Borneo Highway, he said, are still ongoing even after the abolishment of PDP.
“WPC (works packages) are still ongoing, so that must be emphasised. All the WPC will still be novated. They will still go on. There is none issue with it,” he emphasised.
“The news of terminating contractors are not right. As far as I am concerned, once LBU is terminated, all WPC should be novated. That is the idea with this project,” he added.
Baru highlighted this after the Third Meeting of the Action Council, a joint Sarawak-Federal Governments Action Committee, to focus on development issues in the state, held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
He pointed out that the decision to scrap PDP was final with the letter of termination issued.
“Decision has been made already. Letter has been issued last Friday on the termination of PDP Sarawak,” he said.
The RM29 billion Pan Borneo Highway project was awarded under PDP to LBU.
The federal government, however, decided to ditch the PDP model and took up turnkey contractor model.— DayakDaily
