SRI AMAN, Dec 17: Minister of Works Baru Bian has given RM10,000 in financial aid to the fire victims of Rumah Sambau in Entulang here. Forty-five families were rendered homeless when a fire completely destroyed their 29-door longhouse on Dec 12.
The aid was presented to the victims by his press secretary, Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh. He and his entourage also brought along mattresses, pillows and blankets for the affected villagers.
A press release stated that Abang Zulkifli expressed his sorrow to the victims, especially with Christmas just around the corner. He also extended his condolences to the family who lost a life in the tragedy.
Abang said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) would work with federal and state agencies to assess the long-term needs of the victims, including looking for ways to reduce the risk of longhouse fires and to improve the welfare of the community. — DayakDaily
