Bank manager’s widow sentenced to death for his murder

SIBU, Oct 27: The widow of a bank branch manager here was sentenced to death today after she was found guilty of murdering her husband, reports The Star.

High Court judge Justice Nurchaya Arshad said the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Ling Hang Tysr, 36, was involved in the murder of her husband Wong Jing Kui.

Justice Nurchaya added that the accused had lied in her defence. She however ordered for the accused to be held in Kuching Prison pending an appeal against the sentence.

On June 14, Ling was ordered to enter her defence after it found that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against her.

She was found guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Ling and her boyfriend Tiong King Guan, 30, were charged with killing Wong, 31, at his Jalan Ulu Sg Merah home at 1.30am on June 14, 2012.

Both Ling and Tiong were also charged with abetting one Ling Hoe Ing, 28, in murdering Wong, an HSBC branch manager.

Tiong is still at large while Hoe Ing is serving a 16-year jail sentence after he pleaded guilty on Oct 1, 2013 to an alternative charge of culpable homicide in Wong’s death.
