Bangladeshi student found dead after falling into Sg Sarawak near Kuching Waterfront

Bomba PPDA personnel trying to retrieve the body after it was found about 3m from where deceased was last seen.

KUCHING, Sept 18: A Bangladeshi student was found dead after falling into Sungai Sarawak near Kuching Waterfront this afternoon.

According to a report from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, they received the call regarding the incident at 3.57pm and firefighters from Bomba Pandungan were deployed to the location.

Based on the witness statement, the 21-year-old victim, identified as Ifran Sadique, fell into the river near the floating mosque.

Firefighters then started the search and rescue (SAR) operation utilising water surface searching and iron gripping before the Bomba Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) arrived.

Following the arrival of PPDA, their first dive at 5.14pm managed to find the body about 3 metres from where the deceased had fallen.

The victim was later confirmed dead by the Ministry of Health (MOH) medical personnel and handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
