KUCHING, June 8: Progress on the Bandar Lawas Bridge has reached 97.2 per cent and is slated for completion by September this year, where it is set to become an iconic landmark as well as a major transportation link in northern Sarawak.

In a TVS report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that the bridge, which is part of the Northern Coastal Highway (NCH) network, will provide a direct connection through Lawas town to areas across the river.

“At the moment, there are still several works to be carried out, and we would also like to do additional enhancements to further improve the bridge’s appearance.

“Once completed, the bridge will significantly reduce travel time to Lawas town and provide a direct connection to Merapok and Sabah, which is part of the NCH project,” he said during a working visit to the bridge and the new PERKIM Lawas Branch building site on Sunday (June 7).

Awang Tengah also expressed optimism that the bridge would unlock more development opportunities, ensuring balanced developments on both sides of Lawas, including areas across the river. — DayakDaily
