KUCHING, Nov 26: Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi has proposed improvements to the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex to enhance convenience and comfort for government officers, media personnel, and members of the public.

His proposal, which generally drew positive reactions from the media and members at the Assembly, highlights the daily challenges faced by visitors walking from public parking areas to the DUN building, whether in heavy rain or intense heat.

“I suggest the government to consider allocating funds to construct covered walkways connecting key public parking zones directly to the building.

“While the proposal is modest compared with broader state development projects, it would significantly improve accessibility, safety, and comfort, and reflect the DUN’s role as a modern, efficient, and people-friendly institution,” he said in his debate on the Supply Bill 2026 today.

He added that integrating these upgrades into the DUN complex would ensure that all who engage with the legislature, whether in an official or public capacity, could do so in a safer and more comfortable environment. —DayakDaily
