SERIAN, March 22: An additional water treatment plant needs to be built to supply treated water to the whole of Balai Ringin.

Its assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan said about 80 villages in the area are without treated water supply and have to depend on gravity feed or rain water.

“For Balai Ringin, only 32 villages are enjoying treated water supply.

“And to supply treated water to the whole area, we will need more than RM300 million as informed by the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB),” Snowdan told reporters today.

The Deputy Minister of Creative Industry and Performing Arts had earlier officiated at the Balai Ringin mini lab for Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) at Roxy Hotel here.

According to Snowdan, the water treatment plant in Slabi in Serian would not be able to supply water to Balai Ringin because of low water pressure.

“So we will need another water treatment plant to cover the whole of Balai Ringin,” he asserted.

Snowdan added that there was no problem of electricity supply to the area, which he said was almost 100 per cent coverage.

According to him, Balai Ringin is both under Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) and GKCDA, unlike some other constituencies which is under a single agency. — DayakDaily
