KUCHING, Nov 22: Bakun Trust Fund (BTF) has requested Sarawak Energy to channel funds as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang said that BTF only received RM10 million in funds since its formation 27 years ago in 1997.
“This fund, which is used to provide scholarships to students on a ‘one-off’ basis, can only last for another seven years with RM6 million remaining, with RM4 million in assets and RM2 million in financial,” he told reporters after leading BTF board committee members for a courtesy call to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
Liwan, who is also Belaga assemblyman, said the courtesy call with Abang Johari was to seek his advice and request for funds.
“We have requested funds of RM1 million each for residents in Bakun and Murum which will be distributed annually.
“These funds will be used for students but also residents in the two areas for assistance and many others,” he added. — DayakDaily
