KUCHING, April 21: Shops selling baking supplies including plastics, containers, accessories and ingredients are allowed to open twice a week on Wednesday and Friday from 7am to 7pm during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that this decision was made today during the committee’s daily meeting.

“This is to enable homemakers as well as small and medium size (business) entrepreneurs to make preparations for baking for the upcoming Hari Raya and Gawai festive celebrations later,” he said during a daily press briefing on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

However, he said that all laundry services including self-service laundry shops are still not allowed to operate throughout the MCO period.

On Brunei’s measure to have visitors entering the country to bear all costs including B$1,000 for Covid-19 tests and undergo 14 days of self-quarantine at a Brunei government facility, Uggah said there was no issue for Sarawakians on transit through Brunei to Limbang and Lawas.

“We have not been informed at the moment but our collaborations with Brunei are very close. We exchanged information and worked out policies which give minimum inconvenience to both states.

“We are very good neighbours for all the time and we don’t try to give difficulties to each other during this period,” he added. — DayakDaily
