KUCHING, June 20: The Babulang Festival and Buffalo Race is making a comeback this year with exciting additions such as raft and small boat races, promising a livelier and more immersive experience for both local and international visitors from June 27 to 29.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Batu Danau assemblyman Dato’ Paulus Palu Gumbang stated that the 20th edition of the event is expected to draw thousands from across Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei Darussalam, and neighbouring regions, as in previous years.

“This year’s festival will be held in Batu Danau, the permanent venue that has hosted the event annually. In addition to the iconic buffalo races, we’re introducing new elements, including raft and small boat races. Traditional highlights such as the Ratu and Panglima Babulang pageants and gong performances will also return,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Explaining further, Dato Paulus said that the courtesy call aimed to extend an official invitation to the Premier to officiate the highlight of the festival, which will take place on June 28.

“We have briefed the Sarawak Premier on every activity that will be held during the three-day festival,” he said. — DayakDaily
