KUCHING, Oct 13: The first payment of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid for B40 households worth RM500 will be distributed in February next year.
Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim said normally, the first payment of STR for B40 households would be capped at RM300.
“However, for STR 2024, the first payment is increased to RM500 which insya-Allah will be distributed before Ramadan month (mid-March 2024),” he said when tabling the Budget 2024 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He also announced that the minimum rate of STR for single youths has been increased from RM350 to RM500.
Additionally, STR 2024 will take a different approach whereby the government will open new applications as early as November 2023 and applications will be open throughout the year, compared to ‘once a year’ previously.
In general, the STR allocation has been increased by RM2 billion or 25 per cent, bringing the total from RM8 billion to RM10 billion.
Its maximum rate has also been increased from RM3,100 to RM3,700.
Anwar also mentioned that next year’s STR would benefit 9 million recipients or 60 per cent of the Malaysian adult population. — DayakDaily
