LAWAS, March 23: Contractors have been warned to focus on completing “sick” projects or face contract termination.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan issued this stern warning after several development projects in Lawas Districts were found to be experiencing delays and categorised as “sick” or problematic.

He asked the contractors involved to focus on completing the sick projects with close monitoring.

“I have asked them (contractors) to focus on the dire projects and keep a close eye on the entire development of the project because that is very important.

“If there is no progress after being issued warning letters, they will be asked to consider cancelling the (project) contract because we do not want the project to be further delayed and its implementation affected,” he said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today.

Awang Tengah raised this in a press conference following his visit to SK Awat-Awat in Sundar here on Monday (March 21).

He emphasised that such actions are necessary in the interest of the community who need the facilities and enjoy the fruits of these developments by the government.

Limbang Division acting resident Sebi Abang, political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Awangku Zainal Abidin Dato Pengiran Jawa as well as Public Works Department (JKR) Lawas District engineer Lee Teck Kiu and civil engineer Faznur Syakira Zulkipli were among those present. — DayakDaily
