KUCHING, April 2: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is in self-quarantine after coming into contact with a Covid-19 patient last Friday (March 27).

According to his press secretary Saiful Bahari, the Health Department issued the advice yesterday (April 1) after a representative who attended the Food Supply for Covid-19 Committee chaired by the Minister on March 27 tested positive for Covid-19 two days ago.

The Health Deparment has also urged all committee members who attended the meeting including Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Assistant Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industry Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and Deputy State Secretary Datu Dr Sabariah Putit to observe 14 days’ self-quarantine as well.

Saiful however emphasised that all safety measures and procedures were followed prior to the meeting.

“Datuk Amar is now at home and upon conversation with him through the phone, he told me he was ok,” he disclosed in a post on his social media page.

The committee handling food supply, he added, is currently coordinating their work through phone calls to ensure there will be sufficient food supplies especially for the poor and needy in rural and remote areas of Sarawak.

Saiful also disclosed that he was outside the meeting room and had no close contact with the Covid-19 patient but is also currently observing a 14-day self-quarantine period to be safe.

Noting the seriousness of the disease which is a public health crisis which should not be taken lightly, Awang Tengah advised: “Please comply with the Movement Control Order (MCO).” — DayakDaily
