LIMBANG, Nov 29: Another big ‘Hari Raya’ celebration awaits the people as Sarawak goes to poll on Dec 18.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has described the upcoming 12th Sarawak Election as a big ‘Hari Raya’ which enables the people to vote and subsequently rejoice in victory.

“Since it is getting nearer to ‘Hari Raya besar’, election and all kind of things happened.

“There are also some people who use it for their personal gain. That’s called misconduct,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the launching of the Sarawak Linking Urban, Rural and Nation (Saluran) initiative by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) at Kampung Pahlawan here today.

On another note, he called on the people not to trust new political parties which have been growing like mushrooms.

He believed some new political parties would not be sustainable and eventually disappear and die down after the election.

Likewise, Awang Tengah said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is a party that looks after the welfare and interests of Sarawakians and fights for Sarawak’s rights.

He outlined that GPS has a clear policy to assist the people in generating higher income and living a better life.

One such policy is the digital economy, enabling people to generate more income through online and electronic commerce.

Thus, Awang Tengah said the GPS government is committed to increasing Internet connectivity in suburban and rural areas.

On Internet connectivity in Limbang, Awang Tengah said the Saluran initiative is expected to increase the Internet penetration rate to 98.4 per cent by the end of 2022 from 48.5 per cent at present.

He added six locations in Limbang have been provided with the Saluran Wifi Internet, which uses the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT).

Those locations are Kampung Ipai, Kampung Maruyu, Kampung Merajang, Long Rayeh, Rumah Rumpang, and Kranga Ma.

On the implementation of the National Digital Network (Jendela) to upgrade Internet coverage, Awang Tengah said a total of 33 sites in Limbang had been identified for the initiative.

Assistant Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land, and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail; Batu Danau incumbent Paulus Palu Gumbang; SMA general manager Dr Zaidi Razak; and community leaders were among those present at the event. — DayakDaily
