KUCHING, Jan 7: Japanese dance group Avantgardey will make their first-ever performance in Borneo at the Anime, Comics and Games (ACG) Concert 2026, scheduled for January 31 at Stadium Perpaduan Negeri Sarawak in Petra Jaya.

Organised by The Band Lab Group with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak, the concert has grown from a local music showcase into a regional-scale event.

According to its minister, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the event initially began as a small local showcase but has since evolved into a regional landmark.

“The concert demonstrates Sarawak’s capability to host large-scale stadium performances that merge orchestral music with modern pop culture. It will also serve as a platform to strengthen cultural ties between Sarawak and Japan,” he said at a press conference at Baitulmakmur II here today.

He added that the core theme of the concert revolves around bridges, particularly the development of the Sarawak-Japan cultural bridge.

This collaboration builds on the Sarawak International Band and Orchestra Festival held in 2024, which involved more than 70 Japanese musicians.

“That encounter was so successful that it led to an institutional link as well as the establishment of The Band Lab Japan, which serves as the sister branch of The Band Lab based in Kuching,” he said.

Several members of The Band Lab Japan are expected to perform alongside local musicians during the concert.

Tickets will be sold online via Ticket2You, with prices ranging from RM198 for standard seating to RM438 for seats closest to the stage. — DayakDaily
