KUCHING, Jan 13: The residents of Kampung Pasir Hilir in Lundu want the local authorities to address the unsatisfactory condition and workmanship of the newly completed bridge across Sungai Melaban.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaint Bureau (PCB) chief Wilfred Yap and the party’s Opar branch chairman Niponi Undek, who is also a Lundu District Councillor in a joint statement revealed that they received a complaint from the disgruntled residents about the soil erosion at the foundation of the bridge which requires rectification.

“The residents are also unhappy with the quality of the resurfacing works on both sections of road crossing the bridge and frustrated because they have already waited for many years already for the construction of the bridge.

“This is because the continuing soil erosion would render the Sungai Malaban bridge unsafe.”

The residents also hope the authorities will take appropriate action to ensure that the Sungai Malaban bridge and surfacing works is completed based on the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR)’s specifications before any payment is made.

Yap and Niponi view the above matter seriously and will continue to monitor the situation until the matter is settled by the authorities to the satisfaction of the residents.

Meanwhile, Yap disclosed that SUPP PCB is always ready to give advice and lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems with government departments or agencies, or who comes across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it.

“Anyone requiring assistance can always call SUPP Public Complaint’s mobile number at 016-7797688 or 082-246999 or go direct to SUPP Head Office to request for assistance.

“The public in DUN N4 Opar in need of any assistance can also contact SUPP Opar Branch Chairman Niponi Undek at 0198886416,” he added. -DayakDaily
