KUCHING, April 5: The Association of the Boards of Management of Aided Chinese Primary Schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions hopes the Education Ministry will be kind enough to do two things for SJK (C) Kai Nang.
Firstly, the Association hopes the Ministry would approve the relocation of the school to Samarahan Division. Secondly, the Association hopes the Ministry would foot the bill to build the 24-classroom school, which is estimated to cost RM8 million.
The Association’s president, Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, told a press conference that they were hoping for a 100 per cent grant from the Ministry because the Chinese community is basically exhausted of all resources after raising funds to build SJK Chung Hua Bako.
“Therefore, we hope the Education Ministry can allocate 100 per cent of the grant to help complete this relocation project,” he said.
He explained that there was a need for more Chinese schools in Samarahan due to the fast-growing population in the division.
“SJK (C) Chung Hua No 2 is full already. Every year, we have to reject over 200 new student applications to study there,” he said.
Citing unofficial data, Chai said Samarahan is home to between 46,000 and 47,000 households in 2016. — DayakDaily
