KUCHING, May 21: Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) welcomes cooperation from individuals, groups or organisations to protect and safeguard the natural surroundings of the Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC).
BBHA chairman Dato Peter Minos also lauds the recent efforts by Unimas and the Forest Department Sarawak in planting trees to preserve and protect the Bung Bratak area as ‘green lungs’ (an area of natural parkland within an urban region, supposed to replenish the air with oxygen).
“Such efforts from the parties involved will ensure that the surrounding natural environment in Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC) is preserved and rejuvenated, including protecting the wild animals.
“We, the volunteers at BBHC, cannot do very much, but together with Unimas, Forest Department, and Sarawak Energy Berhad, we show the world that we can do something good and positive,” he said in a statement today.
On the same note, Minos said everyone must care for nature and the environment.
He also said that the current climax changes, which resulted in heat waves and weather uncertainty, are the results of human acts disturbing and debasing the environment in the name of progress and advancement.
“If humans continue to destroy the forest, emit carbon dioxide without control, damage the hills and mountains, contaminate the air, streams, rivers and the seas, we will ultimately face self-destruction and definite calamity.
“Before it is too late, let us start protecting our trees and plants, planting trees around, safeguarding our green lungs and stop contaminating our air, rivers and streams,” he added. — DayakDaily
