KUCHING, Aug 8: Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) president Lina Soo says it is time for Sarawak rights to have greater recognition by getting the people’s support and bringing their voices into the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

She asserted that shouts of slogans in the streets are no longer viable because any changes in legislation, constitution or political can only be made in Sarawak DUN.

“Change can only come from the DUN, it cannot come from shouting in the streets.

“To introduce new legislation like the Sarawak Independence Referendum Ordinance, two-thirds of the YBs (Members of Parliament) have to pass it in order for it to be legitimate,” she said today when announcing the three candidates from Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) who would be contesting in the upcoming 12th state election.

Besides declaring herself to be the candidate in Padungan, Soo revealed that the S4S candidates for three other constituencies are Leong Shaow Tung in Batu Lintang, Chan Chee Hiong in Pending and Tan Kok Chiang in Kota Sentosa, who will be contesting under the party’s ticket.

Soo thus urged voters to give their true support to the state’s rights activists who have been on the ground fighting for the people’s rights for many years.

“They have been on the ground, fighting (for the people) for so many years since 2013. It is 2020 now, so it has been seven years.

“So, today with our candidates here, we urge the voters not only to give our candidates a chance, but also to give themselves a chance to have a say in their future.

“We will carry the voice of the rakyat to DUN and from there, we will make the change,” she reiterated.—DayakDaily
