KUCHING, Jan 7: In less than a week, A-List nominees such as Cheng Rexen (‘Schrodinger’s Cat’), Jirayu Tantrakul (‘Kom Faek’ (The Lost Art)), Kim Nam Joo (‘Misty’) and Sinjai Plengpanich (‘Sri Ayodhaya’) will be taking to the red carpet at the 23rd Asian Television Awards (ATA).

Other major celebrity nominees who will also be walking down the red carpet include Maylada Susri and Ananda Everingham from Thailand.

Chinese actor Danchen Yan and Miss World Malaysia 2018 Larissa Ping will also be here. Danchen Yan has always been known for her great performance in ‘Hutong Days’ (2008), ‘I am Chinese’ (2012) and ‘The Four Cupids’ (2010).

The auspicious awards ceremony will be held here from Jan 11-13 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

Forty-two award categories are up for grabs as the ATA aims at recognising excellence in programming, production and performance.

A panel of 50 judges from across the region have been hand-picked based on their expertise. A wide range of broadcasters, including free-to-air television stations, pay-tv platforms, digital streaming services as well as many independent production houses in Asia are drawn to enter the awards by the hundreds.

There will also be a special performance by multi-award winner Winnie K from Malaysia at the ATA. She has been crowned the ‘Asia Bagus Champion’ at a very young age in Singapore and represented Malaysia during the Grand Championship in Tokyo, Japan.

This year, ATA will be hosted by popular singer and host Wallace Ang, former MTV Asia VJs May Wan and Choy Wan together with Adrian Jalaludin, who has been in the Malaysian entertainment industry for over a decade (with 10 of those years as a television host specialising in sports, travel, talk shows and children), and Mark Zambrano, who is a senior television news anchor and sports Correspondent for Philippines’s GMA News and Public Affairs.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Ambassador of Tourism Larissa Ping will be making her first presence on the red carpet.

ATA is holding their 23rd edition here in support of the Visit Sarawak campaign organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports.

“The attendance of A-List celebrities and the global attention for this event is a great way to spread the excitement of eco-tourism in Sarawak, also known as the ‘Green Heaven of Southeast Asia’,” said Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

ATA has revealed the full list of nominees for each category on its social media platforms and official website https://www.asiantvawards.com/.
