ASF forces temporary closure of Krokop abattoir in Miri

KUCHING, April 8: An abattoir in Krokop, Miri was issued a closure order following the detection of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus on Wednesday (April 6).

Modernisation of Agriculture And Regional Development Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the closure order was issued in accordance with Section 25 of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999 as a control measure to prevent the spread of the disease.

“This is also to enable cleaning and sanitation works to be done effectively,” he said in a statement today.

To meet the demand for pork supply in Miri, the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVS) allowed the movement of pork from Sibu, Samarahan, and Kuching to be sent to the division. ā€” DayakDaily
