MIRI, April 13: In view of the persistent dry and hot weather here, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting has reminded the people to drink adequate water and to refrain from conducting open burning activities.

He cautioned that opening burning, like setting garbage on fire, would cause more bush fires and haze.

“Bush fires are occurring almost daily and causing the air to be hazy,” he said when contacted.

Ting hoped the government would carry out cloud seeding to bring rain.

“In the meantime, the public, especially children and the elderly, should take care of their health, wear masks and cut down on outdoor activities.

“The dry season can lead to health issues such as asthma, cough, trachea and skin diseases.”

Ting urged those who witnessed people conducting open burning to report it to the authorities by calling 082-319543, WhatsApp 013-7595866 or go to www.nreb.gov.my. — DayakDaily
