MIRI, Jan 9: A Miri City Council (MCC) parking coupon booth caught fire early this morning in front of the MCC office entrance.

According to Mayor Adam Yii, a police report has already been lodged this morning following the incident.

“….and at 10.30 today, both the police and Bomba teams were at the site to identify and collect evidence to determine whether a crime has been committed,” Yii disclosed.

He added, the authorities will also review various closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages and will try to identify the suspect(s).

Early this morning, Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel rushed to the scene in response to an alert at 12.58am.

“Their swift action managed to put out the fire immediately when they arrived at the scene,” Yii revealed.

“Our insurance company has also been informed and their adjuster will be coming to evaluate the losses.”

He added that MCC will release CCTV photos and video recording related to the incident and urged the public to co-operate with the council to ascertain the identity of the suspect(s) involved.

The council is offering a reward of RM1,000 for information leading to successful prosecution of the suspect(s).
